Susan Christo
Peter Doherty Institute
Susan Christo is a post-doctoral researcher in laboratory of Professor Laura Mackay at the Peter Doherty Institute, Australia. After receiving her PhD in 2015, Susan joined the team in 2016 to study tissue-resident memory T (TRM) cells; an immune population that plays a protective role in infection and cancer. While TRM cells phenotypically differ between organs, the extent to which this heterogeneity affected TRM cell-mediated immunity remained unclear. Susan’s research has focused on understanding the contribution of the tissue microenvironment on TRM cell development and functionality. Her seminal work on defining TRM cell heterogeneity and the contribution of tissue-specific signals on the functional plasticity of TRM cells has led to several first author and co-author publications in high impact journals including, Nature Immunology and Science Immunology. Susan currently collaborators with domestic and international researcher and clinicians, and is also engaged with an industry partner where she employs her expertise of microenvironmental imprinting to investigate TRM cells in various cancer settings.
