Dr Matthias Mulazzani
WEHI
Matthias is an emerging leader, postdoctoral researcher, and a clinical neurologist with expertise in brain cancer immunotherapy. After graduating with his medical degree from the Medical University of Vienna he completed a PhD at the Technical University of Munich, working on CAR T cells. In 2019, he was specifically recruited to the Jenkins lab at WEHI to further develop the immunotherapy program within the Brain Cancer Centre.
With a special focus on the glioblastoma tumour microenvironment, he has developed unique approaches using intravital two-photon microscopy and ex vivo laser light sheet microscopy. Matthias has made exciting discoveries in the study of immunosuppressive cell populations and is currently testing their response to treatment. Ultimately, he aims to improve CAR T cell infiltration into brain tumours, boost anti-tumour responses, and improve immunotherapy approaches in the clinic.
